What is an Assisted Living Residence? An Assisted Living residence is a special combination of housing and personalized care designed to permit and allow elderly individuals requiring help with activities of daily living (ADL's) to "age in place" in a homelike setting. Care is provided 24-hours-a-day, seven-days-a-week, in a way that promotes maximum independence and dignity for each resident and often involves the resident's family, neighbors, and friends. While there are various types of Assisted Living residences, Elan Gardens supports a residential model flexible in design and operation, that provides quality care services to people of all income levels. Currently, there are many certified Assisted Living residences open in Central, Eastern, Southern, North, South, East, West, Western, Northern, Southeastern and Northeastern Pennsylvania ( PA ).
Most Assisted Living residents are in their mid-80's and need assistance with basic activities such as bathing and dressing, meal preparation, housekeeping, shopping, and transportation. Often, residents move to Assisted Living when they can no longer safely live alone. Many residents experience some cognitive impairment and require supervision and "cueing" or reminders about their daily routine. The majority of residents have been living nearby, usually within a five mile radius of the residence. Assisted Living residences serve the fastest growing segment of our population people aged 85 years and older. Assisted Living fits in the continuum between shared living arrangements such as congregate housing and the more intensive medical and nursing supervision provided by nursing facilities.
